“President Andrzej Duda has appointed Mariusz Błaszczak to serve as a deputy prime minister at the request of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki,” the Polish Prime Minister's Office said in a Twitter post.

The appointment comes after Jarosław Kaczyński, the head of Poland’s governing conservatives, announced on Tuesday that he had left the government to focus on leading his Law and Justice (PiS) party.

Kaczyński recommended Błaszczak as his choice to replace him as deputy prime minister in charge of security.
