On Sunday, the Warsaw City Council held a ceremonial session, during which medals of the honorary citizen were presented.

This year, they were received by Vitali Klitschko, Mayor of Ukraine’s capital Kiev, and Prof Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, former Warsaw Mayor.

On behalf of the Ukrainian official, his brother Volodymyr Klitschko accepted the medal.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in his message: "Ukraine will never forget the help from Poland in the current situation of Russian aggression."

"We are fighting for our freedom, for the right to live in a democratic, free country," he said in the video message.

The ceremonial session is part of commemorative events taking place in Warsaw ahead of the 78th anniversary of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising.
