Piotr Krawczyk had been Poland’s top spy since December 2016, state news agency PAP reported.

His departure was announced by the spokesman for Poland’s security services, Stanisław Żaryn

“The Intelligence Agency chief, Piotr Krawczyk, has tendered his resignation, citing personal reasons,” Żaryn said in a tweet.

"The relevant procedures are under way," he added.

With university degrees in international relations and Iranian studies, Krawczyk had earlier served as a consul in the Polish embassy in Kabul, as a foreign ministry official, and as deputy Polish ambassador to Turkey, among other posts.

After returning to Poland, he became the AW’s deputy chief in 2015, before taking over the reins of the agency the following year, the PAP news agency reported.
