The Polish foreign ministry said in a statement that Rau "will take part in the high-level week opening the 78th United Nations General Assembly session."

It noted that "this year, the event's main theme is Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all."

Rau is expected to accompany Poland's President Andrzej Duda "during the general debate of the 78th session" and "in selected meetings in the margins of the debate," according to the Polish foreign ministry.

It said Poland's top diplomat would also take part in "selected events accompanying the general debate of the UN General Assembly" and hold a series of bilateral meetings.

"I will meet with my Palestinian and Israeli counterparts as well as top diplomats from Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Oman and several other countries," Rau told reporters.

He will stay in New York until Friday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
