The proposed legislation aims to bolster the country's preparedness for potential crises through improved shelter provisions, crisis management, volunteer engagement, and first aid training.
In a pivotal move to enhance Poland's readiness in the face of potential conflicts, Kosiniak-Kamysz has announced plans for a new civil defense law during an interview with TVN24.
Kosiniak-Kamysz acknowledged that the possibility of conflict is a daily consideration. "We have to be ready for any scenario," he asserted, highlighting the unforeseen nature of the Ukrainian conflict as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and preparedness.
According to state news agency PAP, the proposed civil defense legislation focuses on several key areas: the establishment of adequate shelters, effective crisis management strategies, the mobilization of volunteers, and the dissemination of first aid skills among the populace.
Kosiniak-Kamysz admitted that, prior to the outbreak of war in Ukraine, such preparations would have been “hard to imagine.” However, the current geopolitical landscape necessitates a proactive approach to national security, extending beyond military capabilities to include comprehensive civil defense mechanisms.
