Each day, hundreds of illegal migrants attempt to cross illegally into Poland from Belarus, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk has said.

"Every day, there are 300 or 400 attempts to illegally cross the border," Tomczyk said in an interview with public broadcaster Polish Radio on Monday.

He noted the deployment of special units with "experience from Kosovo" to manage the situation.

According to Poland's Border Guard agency, "a group of foreigners" on the Belarusian side of the border attacked Polish soldiers last Wednesday.

The migrants, armed with dangerous objects and tools, threw these at the soldiers, resulting in facial injuries to two migrants who required surgical assistance.

Over 310 illegal crossing attempts were recorded last Wednesday and Thursday alone.

Tomczyk emphasized the gravity of the situation, disclosing that around 8,000 Polish soldiers and officers were stationed at the border with Belarus.

"The situation is very serious," he remarked.

He also highlighted "the significant role of Russian involvement" in these incidents.

"Ninety percent of the people caught have a Russian visa," Tomczyk said, adding that special transfer sites in Russia and Belarus were being used to send people to the Polish border.

"There are provocations to cause a stir in Poland and divide society," Tomczyk stated. "This is hybrid warfare."

Last week, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that the country will reinstate a buffer zone on its eastern border with Belarus.
