Poland's Armed Forces Operational Command reported that the accident took place on Tuesday around 6:45 PM near the village of Nowa Łuka in northeastern Poland, about a dozen kilometers from the Polish-Belarusian border.

One of the soldiers from the 1st Tank Battalion of the 18th Mechanized Division in Żurawica was clearing a weapon jam when it accidentally fired, hitting him in the leg. The second soldier, from the same unit, injured his finger while trying to assist.

First aid was administered at the scene, and the wounded soldier was then airlifted to a hospital in Białystok by an emergency medical helicopter. His condition is stable, and his life is not in danger.

The second soldier suffered a hand injury. After receiving first aid at the scene, he was transported to a hospital in Hajnówka for specialized medical care.

"He will likely be discharged from the hospital soon and return to duty. Meanwhile, the soldier who was shot in the leg underwent surgery in Białystok and is currently under observation in the hospital. There is no life-threatening condition," confirmed Lieutenant Colonel Kamil Dołęzka, the spokesperson for Operation "Safe Podlasie."

The families of the injured soldiers have been informed and are receiving psychological support, according to Poland's Armed Forces Operational Command via social media.
