Shortly after midnight, the Polish General Staff issued a warning via social media to thieves illegally raiding homes and apartments in the inundated areas.
"Every move you make will be detected immediately, and the consequences will be inevitable," the military warns. Night patrols protecting abandoned homes and apartments are equipped with advanced thermal imaging and night vision equipment.
"Nighttime and power outages will not give you any advantage," the statement reads.
"There is no one who can't be seen with night vision, and no living person who can't be detected by thermal imaging," the soldiers caution.
Flood in Poland: ongoing efforts in disaster recovery
In the most severely flood-damaged areas, Territorial Defense Forces (WOT) are also active. With nearly 3,000 personnel, they are working around the clock to reinforce flood barriers, distribute aid to flood victims, and help with flood recovery efforts.
At night and earlier during the day, WOT soldiers assisted with the evacuation of Lewin Brzeski in Opole Province in southwestern Poland, where nearly 90% of the area was flooded.
The WOT intends to use two drones to oversee and survey the flooded regions. They are also supported by over 14,000 Polish Army soldiers, and helicopters have been deployed for the operation.
Additionally, military police are patrolling areas prone to looting of homes and properties in the aftermath of the flood.
