World Car-Free Day is celebrated every year on or around 22 September in cities across the globe. During this event, people are encouraged to give up their cars for a day. The aim is to raise awareness about the benefits of going car-free, such as reducing air pollution and promoting walking and cycling in a safer environment.

"Using public transport (buses, trams, metro, trains), Park and Ride car parks, Koleje Mazowieckie trains and buses, as well as Warsaw Commuter Railway trains are free of charge," informed the Public Transport Authority on Sunday.

Over the years, the number of vehicles registered in Poland has been steadily growing, and those that were not used or even no longer existed were still listed in the register.

"In 2023, the number of registered vehicles in the country exceeded the population, placing Poland among the top European Union countries in terms of vehicles per capita," reported the Union of Polish Metropolises.

In Warsaw, in 2024, there were 943 vehicles per thousand residents, an 18 percent decrease compared to 2023.
