During yesterday's meeting of the Polish government, which focused on the reconstruction of flooded areas and support for the affected individuals, an agreement was reached with the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Polish scientists will be part of a special team that will serve as an advisory body to assist the Minister for Coordination of Flood Recovery Efforts, Marcin Kierwiński.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk assured that the collaboration between the Polish government, the prosecutor's office, and the team of independent, politically neutral experts from the Polish Academy of Sciences aims to provide a very objective assessment of what has not worked so far in terms of assistance to flood victims.
It will also facilitate decision-making regarding what still needs improvement to enhance the effectiveness of flood prevention in Poland.

The head of the Polish government also stated that among the 9 flood victims in Poland, there were seven Polish nationals, along with a Czech citizen and a German national. Minister Kierwiński added that approximately 200 million PLN (46.5 million EUR) in aid payments has been disbursed to flood victims so far.
Polish scientists warn of increasing extreme weather events due to global warming
Researchers from the Polish Academy of Sciences caution in their latest statement that, in the face of global warming, extreme weather events such as heavy rainfall, floods, and droughts are becoming more frequent and severe.
Experts emphasize the urgent need to incorporate climate challenges into flood recovery plans and highlight the necessity for rapid adaptation of the economy and society to changing conditions.
They also call for the implementation of modern solutions, such as blue-green infrastructure and risk management plans, which should take climate changes into account and integrate various aspects of water and land management.
