"The West must maintain a unified stance on supporting Ukraine and ensuring common security," Donald Tusk said in a social media post on Wednesday, adding that he held phone talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the day.

Next Wednesday and Thursday, Tusk is scheduled to attend a Nordic and Baltic summit hosted by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Harpsund, about 120 km west of Stockholm, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

According to the Swedish government, the meeting will focus on transatlantic relations, security in the Baltic Sea region, and continued long-term support for Ukraine.

During the summit, Tusk and Kristersson are also expected to hold bilateral talks and sign a new strategic partnership agreement between Poland and Sweden.

The Nordic countries—Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland—along with the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia form the so-called NB8 group.

Ukraine's Zelensky wrote on X that he and Tusk discussed Warsaw's support for Kyiv against Moscow's ongoing full-scale invasion when they spoke on the phone on Wednesday.

"I spoke with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and thanked the Polish people for the solidarity from the very first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion," Zelensky said.

"I expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his principled reaction to Russia’s recent attacks and efforts to break its political isolation," he added.

Russia invaded Ukraine by land, air and sea on February 24, 2022, starting the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.

Wednesday is day 1,001 of Russia'war on Ukraine.
