During his official visit to Poland on Wednesday, January 15, Volodymyr Zelensky participated in an exclusive interview with TVN24, Onet, the newspaper "Rzeczpospolita," and the magazine "Krytyka Polityczna."

Polish journalists asked the Ukrainian leader to comment on the controversial statement made by Karol Nawrocki at a press conference in Turek, in central Poland, where the candidate from the right-wing Law and Justice Party (PiS) said that "until our issues, including the exhumation of victims of the Volhynian genocide, are resolved," he does not see a future for Ukraine in the European Union or NATO.

Zelensky responds to Nawricki's comments on Ukraine's NATO and EU future

“If Ukraine is not in the EU and NATO, it means Ukraine will not have security guarantees. If Ukraine doesn’t have security guarantees, it remains alone against the Russian Federation,” Zelensky said.

He added, "If our allies, and Poland is our ally and partner, do not see us in such a security alliance, then Mr. Nawrocki should start preparing, because it might turn out that he will need to take up arms to defend his country alongside his fellow citizens. If Ukraine is not part of the equation, there is a high risk that Russia, after taking Ukraine, will be at the border with Poland."

During his visit to Warsaw, President Zelensky also met with Prime Minister Tusk and President Duda, where they discussed the commemoration of the victims of the Volhynian massacre in the context of Ukraine's accession process to various international structures, including the EU or NATO.
