Polish prosecutors, backed by Justice Minister Adam Bodnar, are seeking the arrest of Dariusz Matecki, a right-wing MP from Law and Justice (PiS), over allegations of fraud and money laundering linked to the country’s Justice Fund.
Matecki is accused of funneling millions in public grants to organizations connected to him while working with the Ministry of Justice under former minister Zbigniew Ziobro.
Prosecutors claim he personally benefited from nearly $115,000 in illicit funds and received a salary for a fake job with Poland’s State Forests.
Bodnar has emphasized that Matecki’s arrest is necessary to prevent interference in the expanding investigation, rejecting claims that the case is politically motivated.
The probe has already led to multiple detentions, including former State Forests officials. Matecki denies all allegations, insisting he is a target of political persecution but vows not to flee Poland.
The case is part of Bodnar’s broader efforts to expose corruption within the previous government, with potential long-term consequences for Poland’s political landscape.
