Polish pilots in the squadron, which was part of the Royal Air Force, prevented Exeter from being totally destroyed during a German Luftwaffe attack in 1942.
On 15 November 1942, the squadron presented the city of Exeter with the Polish flag.
Special events on Friday to honour the Polish pilots included the raising of a red-and-white flag over Exeter Guildhall, lectures on history and a wreath-laying ceremony at Exeter Cathedral.
Formed in the English town of Blackpool in August 1940, 307 Squadron was the only night-fighter squadron fighting alongside the RAF during World War II.
