The Polish elite unit honoured Maj. Rashid Hussein Ziyudov with a commemorative plaque and a special video message on the 5th anniversary of his death, the defence24.com website reported on Thursday.

The message emphasizes the connection between special operations forces (SOFs) in the two countries and stresses the "importance of the shared effort in the struggle against international terrorism," defence24.com reported.

Ziyudov was killed in action after sustaining heavy injuries in a battle in Jordan’s Irbid region in 2016 while commanding a special forces unit from his country.

Jordanian commando units were deeply involved in operations against the so-called Islamic State at the time, according to defence24.com.

The website said the Jordanian military, intelligence service and special forces have been a key component of an international alliance fighting against ISIS.

Poland's President Andrzej Duda has tweeted that the tribute to the "fallen friend" testified to a "Polish-Jordanian brotherhood in arms."
