Kyiv has called for the establishment of a one-off international tribunal to try Russian President Vladimir Putin and other top regime members for "the act of aggression" against Ukraine, news outlets have reported.

Andriy Smyrnov, Ukraine’s deputy head of the presidential administration, said on Thursday that trying Russia separately for the act of aggression, with international participation, could make it possible to hold Putin and his inner circle accountable more quickly, The Guardian newspaper reported.

The act of aggression is considered the gravest international crime because of its subsequent consequences, the British daily said.

“The fact that [Russia] invaded Ukraine with their army is a fact accepted by our international partners,” said Smyrnov, as quoted by The Guardian.

“We hope to have the indictment within three months," he added.
