Speaking at the annual Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mediterranean Conference in Jordan, Rau said: “Our nations deserve to live in peace and dignity in a world ruled by international law and shared commitments. The OSCE stands ready to pursue these goals together with our Mediterranean partners.”

The conference serves as a forum of dialogue between OSCE participating states and six Mediterranean partners: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia. Among the main issues discussed at the event on Monday were energy security, terrorism and refugees.

In his address to the conference, the Polish foreign minister, who is also Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE in 2022, said that "there has been a continuous degradation of the European security architecture for at least a decade," as quoted by Polish state news agency PAP.

He added that "Russia's blatant disregard for international norms and obligations has led to a full-scale war in Ukraine" and that "this violation of international law has been rightly condemned by the international community," the PAP news agency reported.

Rau also said that, despite numerous calls to end the war, the Kremlin continued its invasion of Ukraine, and each day brought new evidence of Russia's violations of international humanitarian law.

“Please be assured, however, that all war crimes will be documented and investigated, and those responsible will be held accountable,” Rau said.

The Mediterranean Partnership is one of two - along with the Asian Partnership - platforms of cooperation between the OSCE and partner countries.

The Mediterranean Partnership’s work is currently led by North Macedonia, which will take over the OSCE chairmanship from Poland in 2023.
