Polish foreign ministry sends condolences after deadly blast in Istanbul

Poland's foreign ministry sent condolences after at least six people died in an explosion in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Sunday.

Six people were killed and 81 others wounded when a blast rocked a busy pedestrian street in central Istanbul in what Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan called a terrorist attack, the Reuters news agency reported.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the victims of today's explosion in Istanbul," the Polish foreign ministry said in a tweet on Sunday.

It added: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and their families. We would like to assure the authorities of Turkey and its citizens of our solidarity."

Condemnations of the attack and condolences poured in from several countries, including Britain and Ukraine, according to Reuters.

European Council President Charles Michel tweeted: "Horrific news froIstanbul tonight. Condolences to the victims of the explosion ... All our thoughts are with those currently responding and the people of Turkey at this very distressing time."
