Medvedev, a former Russian president who is now chairman of the United Russia partysaid he and Xi on Wednesday discussed the two countries' "no limits" strategic partnership as well as the Ukraine conflict, news agencies reported.

"We discussed cooperation between the two ruling parties of China and Russia ... bilateral cooperation within our strategic partnership, including on the economy and industrial production," Medvedev said, as quoted by the Reuters news agency.

"We also discussed international issues, including, of course, the conflict in Ukraine," he added on the Telegram messaging app.

"The talks were useful," said Medvedev, who serves as deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council.

The two met as Russia is seeking to establish closer economic, political and security ties with China and sees Beijing as a potential ally in an anti-Western coalition, Reuters reported.
