Michał Szułdrzyński has written an editorial for the Polish daily Rzeczpospolita, suggesting that it will be difficult for Germany to regain trust after the "trauma" of Ukraine and the inadequate German response.

He writes:

"Olaf Scholz has stressed that he does not want Germany to suddenly take up the position of isolated leader of the support efforts for Ukraine. But he has failed to avoid isolation. He is isolated in his resistance to supporting Ukraine."

In Septemer 2022, we reported a similar opinion expressed by MEP Ryszard Legutko. Legutko stressed his support for the basic idea of European integration, but said that the current set-up whereby France and Germany play the leading role is not working.

In November, the Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, said that the European Union should have heeded warnings from Poland and the Baltic republics against close cooperation with Russia.
