Andrzej Duda hosted Maia Sandu at the presidential palace in Warsaw on Wednesday morning, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

“Poland supports Moldova in its bid to join the European and trans-Atlantic community,” the Polish president’s office said.

Moldova’s head of state is continuing her working visit to Poland, according to officials.

On Tuesday, she attended speeches by Poland’s Duda and the US President Joe Biden outside Warsaw’s Royal Castle, and met with both leaders afterwards, reporters were told.

Biden reiterated America’s support for Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the White House said.

Sandu thanked the US president for America’s “unwavering support” for her country.

Later on Wednesday, President Sandu was due to take part in the summit of the Bucharest Nine (B9) group of eastern-flank NATO allies, hosted by President Duda and with the participation of President Biden, the PAP news agency reported.

Sandu warns of potential 'destabilisation' of Moldova

At last week’s Munich Security Conference, Moldova’s head of state warned about the potential “destabilisation” of the situation in her country.

Sandu said Moldova was the target of “propaganda, cyberattacks and false bomb alerts,” which undermined democracy, according to PAP.

During Russian strikes on Ukraine on February 16, one of the Russian missiles entered Moldovan airspace, according to news outlets.

A police patrol found missile debris in northern Moldova later in the day, the Reuters news agency reported at the time.

The debris was found near the border with Ukraine in the village of Larga, Reuters said, adding it was at least the fourth time since November that missile debris had been found in Moldova since Russia invaded Ukraine almost a year ago.

Last week, Sandu asked parliament to increase the powers of Moldova’s security services, according to news outlets.

She warned that Russia was planning a coup in Moldova, involving attacks by armed groups on government buildings and the taking of hostages, the PAP news agency reported.

Wednesday is day 364 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
