Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki shared a tweet on Friday in response to Putin's statement suggesting that Soviet leader Joseph Stalin had supposedly "granted" land to Poland.

Morawiecki wrote on Twitter: “Stalin was a war criminal responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Poles. The historical truth is beyond doubt. The Russian ambassador will be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a speech in which he claimed that Poland's western lands were a "gift from Stalin" and that Poland should be grateful to the USSR for "restoring its independence."
