According to The Associated Press news agency, the drone interceptions took place as Russia continued its fourth day of airstrikes on the Ukrainian port city of Izmail, situated along the Danube River.

Oleh Kiper, the governor of the Odessa region, confirmed that the attacks inflicted damage to essential infrastructure, including grain silos, and resulted in one person sustaining injuries.

The drone incident followed closely on the heels of an attack earlier this week in which a Russian missile struck a bustling market in the eastern Donetsk city of Kostiantynivka, causing the loss of 17 lives and leaving at least 32 people wounded.

The attack cast a shadow over the unannounced, two-day visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who touched down Wednesday in Kyiv to assess the progress of the country's three-month counteroffensive and signal continued US support.

One of the five intercepted drones had been directed towards Moscow but was neutralized southeast of the city, resulting in no damage or injuries, as confirmed by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

Two additional drones were shot down over the southern region of Rostov, two more were successfully intercepted over the Bryansk region, with both regions sharing a border with Ukraine. The downing resulted in damage to several vehicles and buildings and one individual requiring medical attention.

In recent weeks, Moscow has experienced recurring drone attacks, some of which have struck buildings in the city center, while others were intercepted on its outskirts.
