Duda and Zelensky are expected to meet on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The Polish president told a media briefing in Jersey City on Sunday: “A bilateral meeting [with Zelensky] has been scheduled. Such a meeting is to take place.”
Jersey City was the first stop during Duda’s five-day visit to the United States.
The Polish president, accompanied by First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda, laid a wreath at the local memorial to the 1940 Katyń Massacre of Polish officers and intellectuals by the Soviet Union.
Duda also paid tribute to the victims of the 1939 Soviet invasion of Poland in the early stages of World War II, on the 84th anniversary of these events.
He told reporters afterwards that “Poland is investing in national defences” to ensure that there won’t be a repeat of the 1939 invasion and that “nobody will dare attack Poland.”
Duda referred to the resurgence of Russian imperialism and its aggression against Ukraine, according to officials.
He stressed that "the Polish-American alliance, and our presence in NATO, are very important for Poland's national security."
During his visit to the United States, which runs until Thursday, the Polish president is set to address the 78th session of the UN General Assembly and take part in an Open Debate of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine, the PAP news agency reported.
Duda will also hold a series of bilateral meetings, including with Ukraine’s Zelensky, with Baltic counterparts and with Turkey’s head of state Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, among others, according to officials.
Sunday is day 571 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
