Ukraine’s military command issued the latest update on the battlefield situation via Facebook on Tuesday night.

Ukrainian troops are continuing their counteroffensive towards the port of Melitopol in Zaporizhzhia and near the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, the country’s General Staff said.

Ukrainian forces are “inflicting losses in manpower and equipment” on the Russian army, “exhausting the enemy all along the front line,” military officials in Kyiv added.

In all, Ukrainian and Russian troops clashed 59 times in combat engagements in the course of Tuesday, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday met with Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief General Valerii Zaluzhnyi to discuss the situation on the front in the Kupyansk direction in the northeast, Avdiivka direction in the east, and Kherson direction in the south, according to the Institute for the Study of War, a US think tank.

Russian attacks

Russia on Tuesday conducted seven rocket attacks, 65 air strikes and 31 artillery attacks using multiple-launch rocket systems, targeting the positions of Ukrainian troops, as well as civilian settlements, Ukraine’s General Staff reported.

Russia fired four Iskander-M ballistic missiles, in addition to S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles, against Ukraine’s civilian facilities, the military authorities in Kyiv added.

This resulted in damage and destruction of residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure, and there were casualties among Ukraine’s civilian population, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.

Ukrainian strikes

Meanwhile, Ukraine on Tuesday carried out 14 air strikes on Russian personnel, weapons and military-hardware sites, the General Staff in Kyiv said.

Ukraine also conducted two air strikes on Russian air-defence complexes, and another air strike on a Russian command post, as well as destroying two Russian combat-oriented unmanned aerial vehicles, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.

Moreover, Ukraine fired missiles into three Russian radar stations, eight Russian artillery systems, and a concentration of Russian troops, weapons and military equipment, the Ukrainian General Staff reported.

As part of its latest counteroffensive against Russia, Ukraine is pushing through Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, in a bid to reach the port of Melitopol on the Sea of Azov, as well as aiming to retake Bakhmut in the east, among other objectives.

Wednesday is day 616 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
