Zbigniew Rau made the statement on social media on Wednesday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Poland’s top diplomat wrote on the X platform: “Both parties to the Gaza conflict should immediately cease hostilities and allow civilians to safely leave the Gaza Strip.”
Rau added: “The staff of Polish diplomatic and consular service and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters are making every effort to help the trapped Poles escape the war zone. We are doing everything to ensure that they are safe again.”
On Wednesday, refugees with foreign passports began to leave the Gaza Strip for Egypt through the Rafah crossing, the PAP news agency reported.
It’s the first time the Rafah border has been opened since Hamas launched a war on Israel from Gaza on October 7, according to news outlets.
Egypt’s authorities said they would admit some 90 injured Palestinians, as well as around 450 people with dual citizenship and foreign passports.
The Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7 killed 1,400 people, with a further 239 kidnapped as hostages, British broadcaster the BBC reported.
Israel has since conducted retaliatory bombing of Gaza, killing more than 8,700 people, according to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry.
On Wednesday, Israel said it had struck over 11,000 targets in Gaza since the outbreak of war, the PAP news agency reported.
Hundreds of Polish citizens have been successfully evacuated from Israel, according to officials.
