"On Thursday, 9 November, Poland’s chief diplomat Zbigniew Rau will visit France to take part in a high-level conference on humanitarian aid for the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip," the Polish foreign ministry said in a statement ahead of the event.

It added that the conference, convened by French President Emmanuel Macron, "will offer an opportunity to exchange views on the possible responses to the ensuing humanitarian crisis."

Several Polish aid organisations, including the Polish Medical Mission (PMM) and Catholic charity Caritas Polska, have joined humanitarian efforts to help residents in the Gaza Strip, amid Israel’s offensive against the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

The heads of all the major UN agencies on Monday called for an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in Gaza, saying in a rare joint statement that “enough is enough,” according to the British broadcaster BBC.

The Polish foreign minister said in a post earlier this week that "the situation of the civilian population" in Gaza "must be of particular concern to democratic governments."

The war between Israel and Hamas started when the Palestinian militant group launched a surprise attack from Gaza on October 7, according to media reports.
