The government in Berlin announced the new tranche of military support for Kyiv on Thursday.

The package includes the Skynex air defence system together with ammunition, 10 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, and ammunition for the Leopard 2A6 tanks, according to officials.

Germany is also providing Ukraine with IRIS-T SLM air-defence missiles, 9,080 shells of 155mm artillery ammunition, and 30 drone detection systems, the Euromaidan Press website reported.

The announcement comes after some of Russia's most intense strikes on Ukraine since the Kremlin launched its invasion in February 2022, according to news outlets.

Kyiv said Moscow had fired at least 500 attack drones and missiles against Ukraine between December 29 and January 2, aiming to cause maximum destruction.

On December 29, Russia launched the largest attack of the war, killing at least 39 Ukrainian civilians, the Reuters news agency reported.

Friday is day 681 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
