Russia launched the strike at the start of peak morning hours on Monday, the Reuters news agency reported.

All of Ukraine was under air raid alert from 6 a.m. local time, as the Air Force reported waves of incoming cruise and ballistic missiles.

Russia hit critical infrastructure in the western Khmelnytskyi region, killing two people, according to local officials.

Russian missiles also struck industrial facilities in Ukraine's second-biggest city Kharkiv, and a house in nearby Zmiiv, injuring three people, The Kyiv Independent website reported.

At least two people were injured in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, where Russian missiles hit residential areas, regional governor Yuriy Malashko said.

Other Ukrainian cities, including Dnipro and Khmelnytskyi, also came under a "massive missile attack" by Russia, according to municipal officials.

Ukrainian authorities said full information about the extent of potential
damages would be disclosed after the Russian attack was over, news outlets reported.

Russia and Ukraine have both recently focused on air strikes against each other's territories, having struggled to make notable advances along the frontlines, the Reuters news agency reported.

Russia has launched some of its largest attacks, targeting Kyiv and Kharkiv, among other cities, according to news outlets.

Monday is day 684 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
