UPDATE: Russia's missile attack on Ukraine kills at least four people

Russia on Monday fired dozens of missiles against Ukraine, killing at least four civilians at it struck residential areas and commercial sites, according to officials.

Russia attacked Ukraine overnight into Monday with 51 missiles and eight drones, the Ukrainian News Agency reported.

Two people were killed in the western Khmelntyskyi region, where Russia struck critical infrastructure facilities, according to local officials.

Nine Russian missiles hit the south-central city of Krivyi Rih, killing one person as a shopping centre and dozens of private homes and apartment buildings were damaged, the Reuters news agency reported.

One person was also killed in the Russian strike on a town in the northeast, according to authorities in Kyiv.

Meanwhile, at least four missiles hit Ukraine's second-biggest city Kharkiv, damaging an industrial site and educational facility, and four people were injured in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, after a Russian attack on residential areas, the Reuters news agency reported.

By 12:30 local time, casualties totalled four people killed and 34 injured, according to news outlets. 

Ukraine's Air Force said it had brought down all eight of the Shahed drones fired by Russia, and 18 out of 51 missiles.

Over the past week, Russia has conducted over 400 air strikes on Ukraine's territory, and launched some 125 missiles, the General Staff of Ukraine's army said on Monday.   

Monday is day 684 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
