Poland's Radosław Sikorski and France's Stéphane Séjourné held talks in Warsaw on Monday night.

The new French foreign minister came to Warsaw following trips to Kyiv and Berlin.

Sikorski said this reflected the fact that Poland and France "share the same concerns about the situation in the region, especially when it comes to Russian aggression against Ukraine."

He added this was further reason to deepen Polish-French relations, which he described as "strategic."

Poland's foreign minister said both countries sought to develop Europe's military capabilities and thanked for France's "presence on NATO's eastern flank."

Sikorski noted French military instructors were training Ukrainian troops in Poland.

He added Poland and France had shared interests, such as "European security, containing Russian imperialism and the most urgent issue of supporting Ukraine's war effort" against the Kremlin's invasion.

Poland's top diplomat expressed hope that the EU's special summit on February 1 would approve new financial aid for Ukraine.

Sikorski also said Poland and France would hopefully enjoy fruitful cooperation during Poland's presidency of the EU next year, as well as in the Weimar Triangle format with Germany, which he said helped "outline strategic directions for the future of Europe."

France's Séjourné thanked Poland for its solidarity with Ukraine, stressed the need for EU reform, based on the rule of law, and to develop Europe's arms industry, polskieradio24.pl reported.

Tuesday is day 692 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
