Andrzej Duda made the statement at a media briefing at the 2024 World Economic Forum on Tuesday evening.

In the morning, Poland's head of state met with the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and in the evening with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to officials.

Duda also attended an exhibition on the Russian war crimes in Ukraine and took part in a debate on foreign direct investment in central and eastern Europe, among other appearances.

The president told reporters he and Stoltenberg had discussed the threat from Russia, amid the Kremlin's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, including the "recent incident when a Russian missile entered Polish airspace."

Duda said it highlighted the need to strengthen Poland's defences, "including air defences," adding the country was developing a three-tiered system of anti-missile and anti-aircraft defence, public broadcaster Polish Radio's polskieradio24.pl website reported.

The president said his talks with the NATO chief had also focused on the alliance's upcoming summit in Washington and Poland's push to increase the number of NATO troops deployed to the eastern flank.

Another topic were "the latest developments in Ukraine and NATO's current assistance" for Kyiv's war effort against the Russian invasion, Poland's head of state told reporters.

Duda is taking part in the 2024 World Economic Forum until Thursday; the event runs until Friday.

The central theme is Rebuilding Trust and the main topics include ways to put an end to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, as well as economic growth, artificial intelligence and climate policy, according to officials.

The event brings together "over 100 governments, all major international organizations and the Forum’s 1000 partner companies as well as civil society leaders, foremost experts, young changemakers, social entrepreneurs and the media," the organisers said.

Guests include Ukraine's Zelensky, as well as France's President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, among others, according to officials.

Tuesday is day 692 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
