Emmanuel Macron made the announcement at a news conference in Paris on Tuesday.

The French head of state said France and Ukraine were "finalising a deal," adding he would sign it during a visit to Kyiv next month.

Last week, Ukraine and Britain signed such a bilateral security agreement, public broadcaster Polish Radio's polskieradio24.pl website reported.

Macron also said France would "continue to help Ukraine to hold the front line and protect its skies," amid the Russian invasion, providing Kyiv with 40 Scalp long-range missiles and "several hundred" bombs in the coming weeks.

France will also send more Caesar self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine and continue to train Ukrainian troops, according to officials.

The French president said Russia's invasion of Ukraine presented "the biggest current threat to France," polskieradio24.pl reported.

Macron cautioned that a victory for the Kremlin could "undermine international order" and endanger "our friends in the Baltic states, Poland and Romania," according to news outlets.

Wednesday is day 693 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
