According to Reuters, the Belarusian Defence Ministry announced it positions the deployment of nuclear weapons within Belarus as a necessary measure for strategic deterrence.

Reuters also added, the newly unveiled military doctrine outlines specific actions that the Belarusian army would take in response to any armed aggression against its allies within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) including Belarus and Russia.

According to Reuters, Minsk has simultaneously expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue with NATO countries, if the west stops what the Belarusian government perceives as “aggressive rhetoric” directed against that country.

Last week, Poland's president met with the leaders of Belarusian democratic opposition and reaffirmed Warsaw's support for a "free and independent Belarus."

Polish President Andrzej Duda and Belarus opposition leaders, headed by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, met at the Belweder palace in Warsaw.

Duda said he was advocating for a free, independent and democratic Belarus "on every international forum," adding that Poland was working for the "release of all political prisoners" held by the Lukashenko regime.

They include the Polish-Belarusian journalist and activist Andrzej Poczobut, imprisoned by Minsk in 2021, state broadcaster Belsat noted.
