Poland’s Foreign Ministry emphasized that this initiative sends "a strong signal of our joint determination to continue supporting Ukraine in its fight against the aggressor."
The UCG aims to provide truthful information about Russian aggression, particularly targeting countries in the Global South. The initiative was announced by Tomasz Chłoń, the Polish Foreign Minister's Plenipotentiary for Countering International Disinformation, and James P. Rubin, the US State Department's Special Envoy and Coordinator of the Global Engagement Center.
Chłoń highlighted that supporting Ukraine and fighting disinformation, especially from Russia, is a priority for Poland. The UCG will bring together specialists from partner countries such as Canada, Finland, France, the US, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Sweden, NATO, and the European External Action Service.
This team will coordinate communications, promote accurate information about the Russian invasion, amplify Ukraine's voice, and expose Kremlin information manipulation.
The UCG will consist of a dozen or more experts who will work together to monitor and respond to disinformation. Chłoń noted that the battle against Russian disinformation also includes countering false narratives from China, which often supports Russia's diplomatic arguments.
