Sikorski reaffirmed Poland's commitment to strengthening ties, highlighting Algeria's role as a reliable energy partner for Europe and one of the world's largest producers of natural gas.

He commended the country for actively pursuing "ambitious projects" in renewable energy, including green hydrogen initiatives.

"We confirmed our commitment to revitalizing our relations, especially in such a crucial area as the energy sector," Sikorski said.

"Algeria has proven to be a solid partner for Europe in the energy field, being one of the world's largest producers of natural gas and also a country that is implementing ambitious projects in renewable energy, such as green hydrogen," he added.

Sikorski told reporters that Poland was interested in enhancing cooperation with Algeria in agricultural trade and new technology.

He assured Attaf of Poland's sensitivity to Algerian priorities ahead of its upcoming turn at the rotating presidency of the European Union next year, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

"We have reaffirmed our strong commitment to regional security and stability, both in Europe ... and in the Sahel region, where challenges are dramatically increasing," Sikorski said at a joint news conference with Attaf.

The Polish foreign ministry said on social media that Sikorski's meeting with Attaf in Warsaw also focused on cooperation as part of the United Nations, trade relations and Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Friday is day 856 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
