Dr Tomasz Smura, a Polish foreign policy expert, has talked to the Polish Press Agency (PAP) about the current situation in the American presidential elections. He sees Trump as ahead at this time but not as definitively as many might suppose.
Smura said that Trump is crucially ahead in the swing states that frequently decide American elections, but that the attempted assassination might not change too many voters' minds because Americans are currently so entrenched in the culture war.
He said there may be a "few swing voters" who might be persuaded to vote Trump by the powerful images of Trump bleeding against the background of the American flag. For most voters the choice may be between vote for your favoured candidate or stay home.
Smura emphasizes that most Americans are pretty entrenched in their political camps, and this goes beyond their preferences for individual candidates:
We need to remember that Donald Trump has a large negative electorate. It's not so much that "Democrats" are voting for Biden as against Trump.
He emphasized that the indecision in the Democrat camp as to whether Biden will finally be the candidate or not is costing them in current polling.
