U.S. Defense Secretary praises Poland’s defense investments during Pentagon visit

During the visit of Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz to the Pentagon, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin praised Poland's investments in defense, calling them an example for the world and Europe.

Austin highlighted the close Polish-American alliance, thanked Poland for its support of Ukraine, and noted that Poland had received its first F-35 fighter jet.

"Today, I spoke with Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence to thank Poland for hosting U.S. forces and to discuss how we can work together to provide the security assistance Ukraine urgently needs to defend itself from Russia," wrote Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III on X.

Kosiniak-Kamysz pointed out Poland's record defense budget, which will reach 4.7% of GDP next year, and emphasized that Poland is investing more in defense than any other NATO country.
The meeting also covered further assistance for Ukraine and military cooperation, including the possibility of additional arms purchases by Poland.

Austin expressed gratitude for Poland's leadership in supporting Ukraine and emphasized the importance of Polish investments in military capabilities, including the acquisition of Apache helicopters.

Kosiniak-Kamysz noted the "unprecedented threats" in the region and the historic significance of receiving the first F-35 for Polish armed forces, while also pledging to continue efforts to tailor assistance for Ukraine.
