In a statement on Wednesday, the Polish foreign ministry expressed solidarity with the United States, Britain and Australia, which recently imposed sanctions on Russian cybercriminal group Evil Corp.

The US, UK and Australia announced sanctions against Evil Corp and its leaders, a group notorious for stealing banking data in over 40 countries, resulting in illicit gains worth hundreds of millions of dollars globally.

According to the U.S. Treasury Department, sanctions have been placed on seven hackers and two entities linked to the group.

Evil Corp, which has ties to Russian authorities, and its leader Maksim Yakubets were initially sanctioned in 2019. The latest sanctions expand the list to include additional individuals.

"We stand in solidarity with the UK, US and Australia, which have imposed sanctions on members of a Russian cybercriminal group," the Polish foreign ministry stated on X.

The ministry reiterated that Poland "condemns all forms of cybercrime and advocates for strong deterrents against cyberattacks."

Yakubets, the leader of Evil Corp, allegedly used his position at a company owned by the son of Yury Chaika, Russia's former prosecutor-general, as a cover for his illegal activities. A USD 5 million reward has been offered for information leading to his capture.
