After 13 years of working in the European Parliament, Agnieszka Walter-Drop from Poland has received a nomination for an important position from the presidency.
Beginning next year, she will become the Director-General for Structural Policies and Communities. Her responsibilities will include overseeing the work of parliamentary committees responsible for the EU budget and agriculture, among other areas.
According to the Polish state news agency PAP, citing a source within the European Parliament, she has managed to break the glass ceiling, which refers to the unofficial barrier that prevents certain individuals, often women and minorities, from advancing to higher positions or levels of success in their careers, despite having the qualifications and abilities to do so.
Agnieszka Walter-Drop’s LinkedIn profile indicates that she is a graduate of Jagiellonian University and has completed leadership programs at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, along with studies in European law and governance at the College of Europe. She is multilingual and speaks six foreign languages, three of them fluently.
"I am honored by this nomination. Starting in January, together with the new team of the European Parliament, I will support Members of the European Parliament in legislation, negotiations, and debates that shape the direction of EU cooperation," Agnieszka Walter-Drop stated via social media.
Agnieszka Walter-Drop began her career in the 1990s at the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She worked in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and also served in Polish diplomatic missions in Brussels and Berlin.
