Ursula von der Leyen proposed "innovative solutions," such as deportation centers outside the EU, which were criticized for violating human rights.
Polish MEPs, like Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz from the Civic Platform (PO), argued that migrants are part of the Russian-Belarusian aggression, and that Poland has the right to defend its borders.
Meanwhile, Jadwiga Wiśniewska from Law and Justice (PiS) criticized Germany's migration policy and called for stronger external EU borders.
The Renew Europe group had a mixed stance, with some supporting further implementation of the Migration Pact, while others opposed outsourcing deportation policies.
Von der Leyen received backing from the European People's Party, though the far-right called for even stricter policies. Despite the debate, no resolution was foreseen.
