Speaking during his visit to Bratislava, Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that Slovakia’s support is critical for Poland’s ambitions to establish large-scale, multi-caliber ammunition production capabilities.
High-level talks in Bratislava
Kosiniak-Kamysz, accompanied by Polish Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak, held discussions with their Slovak counterparts during the visit. The Polish Defense Minister met with Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak to discuss deepening cooperation between the two nations in the defense sector.
At a joint press conference, Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed admiration for Slovakia’s expertise in ammunition manufacturing, particularly for 155mm caliber rounds.
“Your production capabilities are extraordinary, among the largest not only in Europe but globally. We want to work with you to develop the defense industry. You are our strategic partner in this field,” said Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Focus on large-scale ammunition production
Kosiniak-Kamysz underscored the importance of Slovakia’s role in enabling Poland to achieve its goal of producing multi-caliber ammunition at scale.
“Without Slovakia’s partnership, this would not be possible. I am convinced of this, and you are our primary partner,” he reiterated.
The Polish Defense Minister also announced that an intergovernmental agreement between the two nations is in the works, aiming to formalize strategic cooperation in defense industry development. He expressed optimism that the agreement would be signed soon.
Slovakia’s interest in Polish defense offerings
Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak highlighted his country’s interest in Polish defense industry capabilities.
“During the modernization of our army, we will look to take advantage of what Poland has to offer,” Kaliniak said.
Kaliniak also extended his gratitude for Poland’s military support, including the deployment of Polish forces to protect Slovak airspace when Slovakia lost that capability. He also thanked Poland for its participation in ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising.
“Our meeting today is a great foundation for strengthening our relations. Friendship is already there, and now we are adding an economic dimension,” Kaliniak noted.
