Brzezinski is stepping down as US ambassador to Poland as Trump is set to be sworn in as the next president on January 20 to take over from Biden.

"January 20, 2025 will be my last day as US Ambassador to Poland," Brzezinski said in a social media message released on Tuesday.

"I submitted my letter of resignation to President Biden, to whom I am eternally grateful for giving me his trust to undertake this mission," he added.

'Three very full years at one of the very best US Embassy sites'

"Serving as Ambassador has been one of my life’s dreams," Brzezinski also said. "I never would have imagined serving as US Ambassador to Poland. It exceeds everything I could have imagined for myself. Now I’ve had three very full years at one of the very best US Embassy sites."

Looking back at his time in Warsaw, Brzezinski remarked: "Mission Poland has every reason to be proud of our performance and accomplishments. They have been impressive in every way."

He dedicated his time served as US envoy to Poland to the memory of his mother, Emilie Benes Brzezinski, who died in Florida in 2022.

"Her poise, perseverance, brilliance, creativity, innovative spirit and positive outlook informed every minute of every day I was here in Poland," he said.

He also expressed gratitude to Biden, describing the outgoing president as "a man who is both great and good."

"I am beyond privileged to serve this President, a truly great American President," Brzezinski said in his message.

"I will serve with Mission Poland for the next 56 days, and as always we will strive to deliver for the American interest every minute of every day," he concluded.

Brzezinski took up his post as ambassador to Poland in January 2022.
