The municipal activist from Poland had been spending her holiday in New Orleans, USA, and shared on social media that the tragedy occurred less than a kilometer from where she had been celebrating New Year's Eve at a jazz club on Bourbon Street 300.

"There were so many people having fun, enjoying the moment. The atmosphere was wonderful, and there was a heavy police presence on the street with barricades and security measures in place. We felt our safety was guaranteed. Unfortunately... 10 people are dead, 35 injured, including 2 police officers. We can’t believe what happened," the Polish local official said.

U nas wszystko dobrze! Jesteśmy bezpieczni. Nie możemy uwolnić się od szoku. Nowy Orlean miał być pięknym...

Beata Moskal-Słaniewska managed to record the location of the tragic incident.

Dalej tak trudno uwierzyć... ? To skrzyżowanie, na którym sprawca dokonał zamachu terrorystycznego. Bourbon Street i Canal Street. Szliśmy tędy półtorej godziny wcześniej. Przed zamachem. Wśród rozbawionych ludzi, którzy życzyli sobie szczęśliwego roku. Wciąż gnębi mnie myśl, kto z nich nie wrócił do domu... Tam było mnóstwo młodych ludzi. ?

The mayor admitted that while the city is calm now, the streets are completely empty – even when people cross paths, they pass in silence, without the usual New Year's greetings.

According to her, Bourbon Street and Canal Street have become symbols of the tragedy, and the atmosphere in New Orleans is currently filled with sadness and silence, despite the heavy police presence.

Miasto jest ciche. Ludzie gdzieś zniknęli. A nawet jeśli spotykają się na ulicach, to mijają się w ciszy, bez radosnego ...

The FBI reports that the New Orleans attacker was inspired by the Islamic State

"The FBI informed me that just hours before the attack, he posted videos on social media indicating that he was inspired by ISIS, expressing a desire to kill," President Biden said in a brief statement at Camp David in Maryland.

FBI agents survey the corners of Bourbon Street and Orleans Avenue, just a few blocks from where a man ramped a truck into a crowd at the edge of the French Quarter in the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana. At least 10 people were killed and 35 injured. The FBI is investigating it as an act of terrorism. According to the Polish news agency PAP, President Biden confirmed that the attacker, 42-year-old Shamsad-Din Jabbar, was born in Texas and had served in the U.S. Army for many years.

The FBI is investigating possible connections between the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside Donald Trump’s hotel in Las Vegas, where the driver died. While the investigation is still in its early stages, American media report that Jabbar likely acted alone, with the death toll rising to 15 and 30 others injured.

In a special statement, President Biden assured that the nation stands with the people of New Orleans and instructed his team to provide all necessary resources to support the ongoing investigation and ensure the safety of citizens.
