“We must prepare to protect our diplomatic process, so that it is the Polish people who choose our president, not foreigners,” said Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski as a guest of honor at the Ambassador’s Conference in Paris.

Poland’s top diplomat pointed out that foreign interference in Polish elections is illegal. His comments came after French President Emmanuel Macron accused Elon Musk, owner of the platform X (formerly Twitter), of supporting a "reactionary international" and interfering in political processes across Europe.

On the same day, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre also noted that Musk's actions could undermine trust between Western countries.

When asked whether Musk would attempt to influence the Polish presidential election, Sikorski responded, “It seems he is already trying to do so in the UK.”

Sikorski also praised the French authorities for detaining Telegram's CEO, Pavel Durov, but raised the question of whether regulating social media through arrests is the right approach, or if we should instead create laws to prevent these technologies from negatively impacting society, which will also test Europe's sovereignty.

On Monday, January 6, Poland’s Foreign Minister participated not only in the conference of Ambassadors of the French Republic but also held a meeting with France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot.

Sikorski praises Notre Dame restoration and Polish company's role

The head of Polish diplomacy began his visit to Paris by visiting the Notre Dame Cathedral, which had recently reopened after the fire, with the restoration work involving a Polish company.

“Cleaning these enormous surfaces of old, medieval stone was done by a Polish company (...), they did a fantastic job, and we can be proud of that,” emphasized Sikorski. The politician was deeply impressed by how the landmark had been restored.

"We need to do with Europe, what you have done with Notre Dame," Sikorski added during his conversation with Darius Rochebin, a French journalist of Iranian descent.
