From Friday, January 17th, to Sunday, January 19th, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences delayed the ceremony revealing this year’s Oscar nominations, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The fires sweeping through California also led to the cancellation of international film screenings, as well as the postponement of the Critics' Choice Awards. The show has been rescheduled for January 26.

So far, five people have died in the flames, and more than 100,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate.
Approximately 1,000 buildings, including mansions belonging to celebrities, have been destroyed in the fire across an area of 10,000 hectares. Among the homes lost were those of Paris Hilton and Billy Crystal, as reported by Sky News.
Disturbing images from the fire-affected areas have been shared online by, among others, the popular Polish singer Katarzyna Nosowska. The artist, currently in the United States, posted both photos and a video recording. "It looks bad," she wrote under one of the photos.

Special drones aiding in firefighting by using ocean water to extinguish flames are helping with the aftermath of the wildfires, reports ABC News.
