"It is the final step towards emancipation from the post-Soviet sphere of dependence, in this case in the energy sector," Duda said.
"It is also an important day for Poland, since we serve as a bridge between the Baltic states and the rest of Europe," the Polish head of state added.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda declared that by achieving full energy independence "the period of political pressure and blackmail is finally over."
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stressed that the EU was severing energy links with Russia and Belarus.
"These chains of power lines linking you to hostile neighbours will be a thing of the past. This is freedom: freedom from threats, freedom from blackmails," she said.
The synchronization process, completed using the Poland-Lithuania "LitPol Link" interconnector, marks the culmination of a years-long effort to integrate the Baltic energy networks with Western Europe.
