The details of this operation were reported by the news portal Wyborcza.pl on Wednesday.
44-year-old Aleksander B., a Russian citizen, was arrested in Poland on charges of espionage and preparing a terrorist act, despite
Russia's request for his extradition, claiming he was a common criminal.
Polish authorities took custody of him and transported him to Warsaw on February 13, and the next day, a court ordered his three-month detention.
According to current findings, B. was testing courier routes and security measures to help Russian intelligence smuggle explosive materials to the U.S. and Canada. Some of these packages were transported on passenger planes, posing a serious threat to many lives.
"The arrest of Aleksander B. is the most severe blow dealt by Polish services to Russia's military intelligence agency, GRU, in the past three years. The agent is so valuable to the Russians that they made a desperate attempt to prevent his extradition to Poland," Bartosz T. Weliński from Gazeta Wyborcza stated on social media, sharing an article by Marcin Rybak and Piotr Żytnicki.
