Speaking at a joint briefing on Thursday after meeting UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Sikorski also confirmed talks with Prime Ministerial Security Adviser Johnathan Powell.

“Polish-British ties are flourishing, just like our bilateral trade,” said Sikorski. He noted that, in addition to discussing London’s potential closer relations with the EU, the officials focused on boosting European defense efforts, a particular priority for Poland as it leads EU initiatives to institutionalize defense and security collaboration.

Ukraine crisis and NATO engagement

Asked about the war in Ukraine, Sikorski reiterated that Poland will not deploy troops into Ukrainian territory.

“We have done a great deal to support Ukraine and provide logistical backing for NATO,” he said, emphasizing Warsaw’s role in securing the Alliance’s eastern flank against any Russian or Belarusian threat.

Upcoming EU “Big Five plus UK” summit

Sikorski also announced a planned May 7 meeting of EU foreign ministers in Warsaw, welcoming the possibility of Secretary Lammy’s participation.

The next “Big Five” gathering (Poland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain) is slated for March 31 in Madrid, with Lammy, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha, and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas also expected to attend.
