A high‑level Hamas delegation, led by political chief Mohammed Darwish and negotiator Khalil al‑Hayya, is expected in Cairo to discuss the framework, a senior Palestinian official involved in the negotiations told the BBC on Tuesday.
The previous truce collapsed a month ago when Israel resumed its air campaign, with each side blaming the other.
Fresh strikes in Gaza
Gaza’s Hamas‑run health ministry said Israeli strikes since Monday evening killed 22 people and wounded 45 in Khan Younis, Jabalia, Beit Lahia and Gaza City.
Witnesses described the bombardment as “extremely intense,” saying bulldozers and heavy machinery used to clear rubble were hit. Tanks were also reported moving in southern Rafah.
Positions hardening?
On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated he would not halt the offensive until Hamas is destroyed, and all hostages are freed. Hamas demands an Israeli commitment to end the war before any hostage release.
The Palestinian source said Hamas is ready to cede governance of Gaza to a Palestinian body accepted “at the national and regional level,” including the West Bank‑based Palestinian Authority or a new administration. Netanyahu has ruled out any PA role in Gaza’s future.
The source called the current mediation “serious,” saying Hamas had shown “unprecedented flexibility,” though prospects for a breakthrough remain uncertain.
